Local Technical Assistance Program

In an effort to transfer transportation technologies and procedures developed at the state and federal level to local municipalities, PennDOT established the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) as part of a national initiative established by the Federal Highway Administration.

SPC, as the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and PennDOT planning partner, organizes the LTAP program in the ten-county region of Southwestern Pennsylvania.  This program’s mission is to share transportation knowledge, improve road maintenance and safety skills, and put research and new technology into practice at the local level.

This is accomplished through free training and technical assistance.  Trainings offered either as half-day or full-day courses are scheduled at sites throughout the region on a regular basis, and include such topics such as Winter Maintenance and Roadside Vegetation.  Customized workshops can be provided at the request of a municipality or a group of municipalities.

More information and descriptions for all available courses are available at www.ltap.state.pa.us.

For technical assistance, PennDOT’s LTAP engineers are available by phone, email, or in person to help municipalities troubleshoot specific maintenance and safety problems.  This service is provided by PennDOT at no cost.

Here is the current listing of LTAP courses in our region:
